Athletics Pre-K and Kindergarten Programs We believe that Pre-K and Kindergarten should provide a happy transition from home to school. We believe that during these years, their physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs should be recognized and met and that these experiences will encourage an enthusiastic approach to learning. The overall objectives of both programs are aimed at helping each child gain skills and attitudes which will develop: •Christian ideals and values
•The ability to live in a social group
•Self-control and sense of responsibility
•Creative, independent thinking
•Mental and physical abilities
•Healthy living and work habits
In achieving these objectives, a variety of learning situations are provided in a relaxed atmosphere where the children are free to move about, to explore, experiment and to learn by doing. Iowa Test of Basic Skills Students are given the Iowa Test and each year continue to meet or, in most cases, exceed the national average. Our upper elementary demonstrates academic excellence, scoring in the top percentile Spanish As our world is diverse, learning a second language is very important. The Spanish language is the third most spoken language in the world! Developing this skill will be crucial to future success. Young children learn languages easily and retain them longer if they are exposed to them early in life, which is why our Spanish instruction begins in Kindergarten and continues through 8th grade. Studies show that exposure to a foreign language has a positive effect on intellectual growth, enriches and enhances mental development, and provides an understanding and appreciation of other cultures.
Technology In order to manage in today's competitive and information-rich culture, students must be able to use technology effectively. Technology in the classroom can help students become capable users, information seekers, problem solvers and decision-makers. At St. Anselm, every classroom is equipped with flat panel computer workstations and internet access, in addition to the computer lab complete with electronic whiteboard technology and 18 additional computers. Our technology curriculum is developed through the Michigan Educational Technology Standards (METS) and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). Art, Music & Physical Education Through art, children learn to think creatively and with an open mind. Confidence is built as there is not just one right way to create art. Music instruction seeks to elicit appreciation and to foster growth, while at the same time, assist the student in developing an understanding of the language of music. Physical education allows students to develop coordination and gain confidence as they learn how to live healthy, active lives. |
